comments from HEAD COACH JILL DEL RIO

Girls’ Team
The girls’ team is in a bit of transition with so many players graduating last year. We have two new-to-Cooper players – Elaine Pauli and Marie Berthiaux who will help the team enormously. Our returning players are very strong and will keep the team in one of the top spots in our division.

Boys’ Team
With just one player graduating last year, we will have a sound team with veteran players. We we are very excited about, and looking forward to, what freshman player Omar Suki will bring to the team this year.

Key matchups:

Girls: St. Johns’ team is probably our key match-up this year (April 5-away). Their team has very similar players and the match should be very exciting.

Boys: The Episcopal School will probably be one of the best matches for the boys’ team (April 19 away). The doubles teams will have very competitive matches.

Athletes to watch

Girls: Hannah Weinstein is always an excellent player to watch and now that she is a senior has shown she is a difficult opponent at the singles position.
Marie Berthiaux is a junior and new to the team. She has shown already that she will be a formidable opponent in singles.

Boys: Omar Suki has grown in strength and talent since this time last year as our Line 1 boy player on the middle school team. The other teams are not going to know what hit them when Omar takes the court.
