Leading The Way in Student Wellness and Emotional Intelligence

Nationally recognized thought leadership and community-wide learning
The John Cooper School is deepening its commitment to well-being through nationally recognized thought leadership and community-wide learning. Dr. Stephen Popp continues to lead the conversation on student wellness and emotional intelligence, reinforcing its role as a national model for schools committed to educating the whole child.

Recently, Cooper welcomed Dr. Marc Brackett, Founding Director of Yale’s Center for Emotional Intelligence and one of the world’s foremost experts in the field, for a series of meaningful conversations with students, faculty, staff, and parents. Dr. Brackett’s visit reflected Cooper’s long-standing belief that academic excellence and emotional well-being are deeply connected.

Through age-appropriate discussions with Middle School and Upper School students, professional learning sessions with faculty and staff, and an evening presentation for parents, the Cooper community explored what it means to become “emotion scientists.” These conversations emphasized research-backed strategies for building self-awareness, resilience, empathy, and healthy relationships, skills that are essential for success in school and in life.

This work builds on Cooper’s ongoing investment in wellness education, leadership development, and evidence-based practices that support student growth and development. By engaging with leading voices in education and psychology, The John Cooper School continues to shape a learning environment where curiosity, emotional intelligence, and well-being are central to preparing responsible citizens and confident leaders for the future.
