Middle School Artists Take Home Silvers

Student Artists Recognized at Jr. VASE Competition

Twenty two Middle School students from The John Cooper School entered their artwork in the Jr. VASE Scholastic Regional Event that was held on April 7 in Bryan, Texas. Of those, 18 students received the top rating of Superior and four were awarded Excellent ratings.

All artwork receiving a Superior rating was judged a second time by the juror panel to be considered for a Silver Medal (Platinum Rating). T
welve students from the region were awarded Silver Medals and three of them were Cooper students. Returning home with Silver Medals were seventh grader McKenna Chandler (Printmaking 2D), eighth grader Julian Mathew (Painting 2D) and sixth grader Ryan Taylor (Painting 2D).

Students who participate in the Jr. VASE regional event are interviewed with their artwork by a juror to determine the degree each artwork demonstrates originality of concept, technical expertise, understanding of TEKS skills, and the interpretation of the student’s stated intent.
