Cooper dedicates 23rd Habitat Home

Students dedicate time, hard work, and funds to help a family in need.
On Saturday, April 22, 2023, The John Cooper School dedicated their 23rd Habitat Home to deserving family Shelbie and Jayden.

The family was given a housewarming basket filled with gifts, including a loaf of sourdough bread baked by Head of School Dr. Popp from a family recipe.

“We’ve been partners with Habitat for Humanity since 1999,” says Charles Williams, Associate Head of School before the ribbon was cut. “This year, we had over 70 students dedicate over 600 hours combined into the building of this house.”

Many Upper School students in attendance recalled donating their quarters to The Habitat Project while in Lower School, and were honored to have helped build this house from the ground up.

Habitat senior co-chairs Katey Prettyman and Peyton Wheeler handed over the ceremonial golden hammer to next year's student co-chairs. William Witherspoon, Class of '24, led all in attendance in prayer to bless the new home.

The house was co-sponsored with Saint Simon and Jude Catholic Church.

Special thanks to Samir Muhith, Cathy Mock, and Deana Hicks for their tireless hours as faculty sponsors in this meaningful project.
