International Community Food Fair

Connecting cultures through shared food
As part of the School’s ongoing commitment to experiential learning and cultural awareness, this event invited students to sample signature dishes from local restaurants—many of which were owned by Cooper families and alumni. Participating vendors shared not only their food but also the cultural stories behind their menus, helping students experience the world without leaving campus.

This collaborative experience supported Cooper’s mission to foster a lifelong love of learning, promote personal growth and respect for diversity, and encourage engaged citizenship in a global society.

“Through this celebration, we wove stronger connections with our diverse community, showing that our students were not only part of The Woodlands — they were deeply engaged with the world. We nurtured globally minded, curious, and courageous learners who sought wisdom through experience. This event was just one expression of a deeper philosophy that lived beyond the day itself,” said Marivi Mata, Upper School World Languages Department Chair at The John Cooper School.

To our community partners and restaurants, on behalf of The John Cooper School, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous participation in our recent cultural food celebration. Your delicious offerings and the stories you shared added so much depth and flavor—both literally and figuratively—to this special event. Your involvement helped us create a meaningful experience for our students, one that broadened their understanding of the world and celebrated the rich diversity within our Cooper community. We are truly grateful for your partnership and commitment to enriching the lives of our students in helping them become lifelong learners.

This event exemplified the values of The John Cooper School: academic excellence, mutual respect, global citizenship, and a strong sense of community. By introducing students to the multicultural richness of The Woodlands through food, this event deepened students' appreciation for cultural heritage, built curiosity, and fostered meaningful connections beyond the classroom.
