Engineering Students Build Bridges for End-of-Class Project

Goal Was to Build Lightest Bridge Holding Most Weight

Students in Jenny Glenn’s Engineering class finished the semester in December by testing bridges made out of popsicle sticks. Working independently and in teams, students worked on the bridges on and off throughout the semester. Built only using popsicle sticks and wood glue, the goal of the project was to build the lightest bridge that could hold the most weight. The results were as follows:
Antonio Pastrana & Jacob Gunter’s bridge held 163 lbs.; Matt Krehbiel, Campbell Wilkerson & Jacob Hayley’s bridge held 188 lbs.; Caitlin Ross' bridge held 65 lbs.; Payne Ercolani’s bridge held 170 lbs.
