From Coach Ray Hedden: It was a great week that came with a lot of playing. The girls did very well working through some moments of adversity without wavering from our style of play. They continue to connect and grow together as they get stronger. Our goal is to improve a little every time we are on the court so we will be ready for our run at SPC. Up next is undefeated 6a powerhouse Oak Ridge High School who is ranked in the Top Five in the state. After that, out team gets a much-needed rest.
Season Record: 22-7

From Coach Brent Landrum: I could not be prouder of this football team. They were down by 20 points with eight minutes to go in the game and they scored 21 points to win the game. They persevered throughout the game. That was our first SPC win in football in school history. Our fan base turned out in large numbers on the road, the cheerleaders were incredible, the coaches did a great job, and the players went out on the field and earned the win. We even had the Cooper cross country team come out and support us.
Emerson Raybon had 104 total yards and scored two touchdowns. Evan Minarovic 219 total yards and scored one touchdown.
The defense put up huge defensive stand after another in the second d half to give us a chance. For the game, our defense held St. Stephen’s to 164 yards of total offense. We do not come back and win the football without that great performance by the defense. We are 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in SPC 3A. We are off this week and then we play St. Andrew’s at home on Sept. 23. This off-week comes at a great time, as we are a little banged up. This program deserves this win and we are going to enjoy it. I am ready for what the program holds for this growing program.
Season Record: John Cooper is 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in SPC 3A.
Next up for the Dragons: The Dragons host at St Andrew’s Episcopal on Friday, Sept. 23, 7 p.m.

The Varsity
CROSS COUNTRY teams competed at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Invitational on Sept. 10 in Austin.
From Coach Matt Bohan: From Coach Matt Bohan: Cooper Cross Country ran in Austin this week in the St. Andrews Episcopal Invitational.
The boys’ team ran only five members in the 5-6A event. We competed well with many of the top area public schools and many of the SPC schools. Although the Cooper finished in 15th place amongst the 25 teams competing in the race, Jonathan Goodridge finished in 7th place overall. Sophomore, Mitchell Shannon finished in 42nd overall with 197 total runners in the race. Wes Willgrubs, Wiley Coleman and Adam Muhith also contributed well and all setting personal bests in the 5000m run.
The girls’ team had a rough day with stiff competition and tough, humid conditions. Although we were missing some of our top runners due to injury and college testing, there were a few bright spots. Junior Sidney Cartwright let the Cooper girls finishing in 55th place, amongst 165 runners in the 5000m run. She was followed by freshman Paige Cromley who finished her first 5k race in 22:30 and in 84th place. The girls’ team finished in 14th place.
Also competing well, were some of our younger runners, many logging personal bests. Sophomore Brian Ross knocked two minutes off of his previous 5k time.
The coaching staff is proud of the hard work the team is putting in at this point and although it is still early, we are hopeful for a great season.
