Dragon Cheer Ready To SHOUT!

Let's go Dragons! Dragon cheer squad experienced a spirited week of learning new skills.

The 20-member cheer squad from The John Cooper School began their own special spirit week in June with a three-day cheer camp at school, followed by four days at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) cheer camp at Moody Gardens in Galveston to learn new cheers, chants, stunts and dances.

“The cheerleaders did an amazing job at cheer camp,” said Cheer Coach Traci Schumann. “They worked hard, played hard, and came together as a team; we couldn't be more proud!”

The team earned second place for their Time-Out Cheer and the Overall Most Improved Award along with two superior gold ribbons and one superior blue ribbon. Individual recognition went to rising junior Michelle Tam, who was named as All American, and to rising freshman Hannah Weinman and rising senior Madi Sitter who were semi-finalists in their age group jump-off competition.

“Camp was an exciting experience where we learned new skills. It also helped us to grow as a team,” said rising senior Rilee Schumann, cheer captain for the squad.
