Township Honors Cooper Football’s Second Championship

February 16 Declared The John Cooper School Dragons Football Champions Day
At the February 16 regular board meeting of The Woodlands Township, Chairman Ann K. Snyder read a formal proclamation declaring February 16, 2023 as “The John Cooper School Dragons Football Champions Day” to honor Cooper’s varsity football team after winning its second consecutive Football SPC 3-A Championship.

Cooper Director of Athletics John Hoye, Offensive Coordinator Jeremy Eddington, and Defensive Coordinator Alex Payne  joined Head Football Coach Erik DeHaven as he accepted the honor.

“Thank you to The Woodlands Township for this recognition and proclamation. We need to continue to make this a yearly thing!” DeHaven said as he extended thanks to the Board and to his players, his coaches, the school and The Woodlands community. “You cannot win championships without sacrifices and in our program that is how we demonstrate our love to one another.”

(proclamation below)

BE IT PROCLAIMED:

Whereas, The John Cooper School Dragons captured a 3-A Southwest Preparatory Conference Championship in the 2022 State of Texas Fall sports competitions; and

Whereas, the Dragon football team worked tirelessly to train, prepare and defeat their competitors, creating a new record for the school’s history in The Woodlands, Texas to win its second Football SPC 3-A Championship in a row; and

Whereas, the Dragons achieved this milestone by defeating Trinity Valley by a score of 63-31 at Sheldon ISD Panther Stadium in Houston; and

Whereas, the Dragons ended the season on a nine-game win streak to finish with a record
of 9-1 and repeat as 3-A Champions with back-to-back titles;

Now, therefore, I, Dr. Ann K. Snyder, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Woodlands Township, do hereby proclaim Thursday, February 16, 2023 as:

The John Cooper School Dragons Football Champions Day

In The Woodlands, Texas
