Cooper Students Reflect on Summer Internship

Challenges and Growth Opportunities Empower Students
This Summer, students at the John Cooper School had an opportunity to participate in a new program, “Powering Life @ Priority”, at Priority Power, based in The Woodlands. This program was an immersive experience where students spent time with senior leaders and department heads throughout the organization, participated in workshops based around communication skills, effective presentation techniques, dealing with fear and anxiety and servant leadership.

At the conclusion of the program, students prepared and delivered a final, formal presentation to the Priority Power executive team, based on both what was learned during shadowing sessions and workshops. Students built relationships with other students from throughout the Greater Houston area, learned about one of the fastest growing energy companies out there, had an opportunity to interface and have dialogue with senior leadership (including C-suite) and most importantly…. had fun doing it!”

"This summer I had the opportunity to attend a 2-day shadowing event at Priority Power here in The Woodlands. I was amazed that the price of power can increase 5000% (from 10 cents to 500 cents a kilowatt) when demand on the electric grid almost overcame supply. Why don't we as consumers know this so we can change our behavior?" - Kaden Schwertner c/o 2024

"At Priority Power, I learned about how to be a public speaker and address an audience. I also learned about how a business works and functions day to day. Finally, I learned about the power business and how the price of power is affected throughout the day. It was so much fun!" - Grey Mendenhall c/o 2024

"My experience at Priority Power was amazing. I got to learn so much about not only power, but the business as a whole and the parts I liked and disliked. I also learned a ton about public speaking and how to give better presentations which will help me for the rest of my life." - Jackson Todd c/o 2024
