Cooper JSA Students Participate in Fall State in Austin

Theme of Convention: "Liberty and Justice for All"

A large delegation of Cooper students attended the Texas Junior State of America (JSA) Fall State Convention November 23-24 in Austin with faculty advisors Peter Perretti and Deb Parks.

Students listened to speakers surrounding the theme of Liberty and Justice for All: Reflecting on Rights in Modern America. Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro gave the keynote address during the opening session. Cooper students spoke and debated at the convention; some earning recognition. 

Junior Christina Boufarah won a Best Speaker Award for a role in a debate over U.S. policy in Syria. Junior Carson Wolf was Pete Buttigieg in a mock presidential debate that included the leading Democratic hopefuls and President Donald Trump and sophomore Rushika Prasad debated in a session about campaign finance law.
