Eighth graders create museum artifacts

Students connect themes in "To Kill a Mockingbird" in a recent English project.
This week in 8th Grade English, students worked on a project based on the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

"Some of the student work I have seen and heard include amazing artwork, original songs, and some cool engineering of the scales of justice," said English teacher Kathleen Parker.

Students were asked to focus on one of the themes or essential questions in the book, and connect it to the world today. This was achieved through creating an artifact for a museum exhibit.

The John Cooper School English department strives to find new and tangible ways that their students can understand literature like "To Kill A Mockingbird" at a deeper level, uncovering for themselves why text written in 1960 can still powerfully resonate in today's society.
