Dragon Boys Soccer Takes Tough Games To Final Minutes

Results from the week of January 17

VARSITY BOYS SOCCER
1/18 vs Kinkaid* • 3-2 W
Goals by Will Young, Danny Williams, Tanure Ewherido

1/21 at St. John’s* • 2-2 Tie
Goals by Danny Williams and Will Young

Coach Bryan Sherman: The team played two tough games this week, winning against Kinkaid in the last few minutes, and also giving up a goal to St. John’s to tie in the last few minutes, which is a bit disappointing. We are still trying to figure out who we are as a team but we are getting decent results while not playing our best soccer. Hopefully, we can continue improving as the season progresses and start to play the soccer we are capable of.

VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER
1/18 vs Kinkaid 5-0 L
Coach Amber Clevenger: It was a loss to a good team.

1/21 at St. John’s* 7-0 L
Coach Amber Clevenger: We played much better during this game. This was senior night for St. John’s and they will graduate 12 seniors who have played varsity for four years. They are an amazing team and I felt good about what we were able to do against such a talented team.

1/21 at St John’s* • 63-35 L

Coach Matthew Wilson: Difficult week for the Dragons as we faced SPC-rivals Kinkaid and St. John’s. We battled hard in both games and did some great things defensively, we just couldn’t quite find the bottom of the net. We look forward to bouncing back this week with a non-conference tilt against St. Francis Tuesday evening. (Pizza night for JCS students!) We will follow that up with a home game against St. Stephen’s on Friday evening (Dunkin’ Donuts night!)

VARSITY SWIMMING & DIVING
1/22 at John Cooper-St. John’s Sprint Meet, Westfield High School
Coach Sara Bany: Our meet this weekend was fast and fun.  The meet was unscored and the purpose was to swim short events and gather information for our SPC relays.  The swimmers enjoyed the shorter races and fast pace of the meet and even commented that this was their “favorite Saturday morning practice.”  We have one more meet this weekend as we prepare for SPC and then all of our focus will be on fine-tuning our races and strategy.

Next up for Dragon Swimming:
January 29 at SPC South Zone, UH Campus Recreation Center
February 11 at SPC Championships, Arlington ISD Athletic Complex
