Dragon Girls Swimming Places Third at Winter Showcase

VARSITY SWIMMING   
12/4  at Swim & Dive: Private School Winter Showcase at Westfield High School
Girls 3rd place • Boys 7th place
Coach Sara Bany: On Saturday, the Cooper swimmers swam in the Winter Showcase at Westfield High School.  With over 20 teams participating, the girls’ team came in third place, just a few points behind Kinkaid.  The boys’ team finished the meet in seventh place.  

The meet started out with Kyleigh Jeter, Tillie Claggett, Monica Ianeva and Sara Espitia winning the 200 Medley Relay.  Ianeva followed that victory with first-place finishes in both of her individual events, the 100 Fly and the 100 Breaststroke. Claggett was right behind her coming in second place in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke.  Zhi-Hahn See also came in second place in both the 50 Free and 100 Backstroke.  Other point-scoring swims came from Espitia - fifth in the 100 Butterfly, Alexander Harris who was also fifth in the 100 Butterfly, the fifth-place girls 200 Freestyle relay team of Claggett, Victoria Davila, Ellie Wang and Ianeva, and the girls fifth-place 400 Free Relay team of Jeter, Davila, Espitia and Noelle Harris.
When we return from Winter Break, the swimmers will be busy preparing for SPC with several meets in January as we determine our best line-up and relay combinations.  We are fortunate to have so many options and it will be fun to piece together our best team.

Coach Matthew Wilson: The boys had a busy week! We played Monday at St. Francis Episcopal. We fell in overtime, but saw positives throughout the game and were able to take some of those lessons into the Brookshire Classic in Tyler, Texas. We played three games in three days and
finished in third place. The team bonded over the trip and got to watch a terrific collegiate practice
during some downtime on Friday. We had strong play across the board, led by Andrew Golden, Tres Luzey, Mac Macaul, and Jackson Williams. Mac Macaul was recognized on the All-Tournament team.  
Next week, we play at Legacy Prep on Tuesday and host Conroe Covenant on Saturday.

Coach Amber Clevenger: Our losing score of 1-4 does not depict the effort that went into this game. It was a hard-fought loss. Tamsin Prudencio scored a great goal with an assist from Mikaela Camarata and freshman GK Laila Taylor came up huge with some great saves, she even saved an early PK. It was a good game to prepare the team for the upcoming tournament this Friday and Saturday at Lutheran South.

Coach Amber Clevenger:  Over the past few days we have been participating in the Luther South Soccer Tournament, we saw some good things as well as some hard things. 
Our first game vs. Incarnate Word was a hard-fought game but we struggled in the second half and ended the game 2-4 (loss) with Tamsin Prudencio with a highlight of the game. 
Our second game was against Lutheran South was a 3-0 win and we saw some really good things and Kaitlin Hinch was certainly a standout player with 2 goals and an assist. 
Our third game vs. Bay Area Christian was a 3-0 win for us and put us into the third-place place game with Houston Christian. 
From the beginning, in the third-place game, we were lethargic and we struggled so we didn’t have the best first half and we gave up too many goals. We tried to catch up in the second half with goals from Mikaela Camarata and Kaitlin Hinch. 
While we lost the last game with Houston Christian, what was important to me was that we were able to get in some good games and get the cobwebs out and figure out which players would be best in certain positions.
