Next game for the Dragons: The Cooper Dragons will take on Ft. Worth Country Day in the SPC Championships on Saturday, November 10 at 5 pm.
This is Cooper’s first time to advance to championship play.

Coach Josh Childers: Another great win for The Cooper Dragons. We were very happy to get the victory on Senior Night and complete the regular season undefeated. We were a little rusty after the bye week and definitely have some things to clean up before next week’s championship game against Ft. Worth Country Day. We were able to make enough big plays on both sides of the ball to get the victory. The boys are very excited about the opportunity to win the first ever championship for The John Cooper football program and will be ready to go next Saturday.

Coach Ray Hedden: We lost in five sets to an undefeated St. John’s team on Tuesday. The Dragons played great defense for the first three sets but ran out of gas the last two. We are now turning our focus to SPC where we go in as the sixth seed and play Greenhill in Round 1.

From Coach Sara Bany: The Woodlands Invitational began on Thursday with the diving portion of the competition. Sophomore Adelaide Herman competed for Cooper and tied for fourth out of 18 girl divers. Saturday morning the rest of the team competed in the swimming events. Although Cooper brought only a portion of the team due to the SAT and a number of fall athletes still finishing up their season, the boys finished fifth out of 10 much larger teams and the girls finished seventh out of 13 teams.

The girls’ team brought several new freshmen who scored points for the team. Tillie Claggett placed 14th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.23 and sixth in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.02. Caitlin Lanigan placed eighth in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.81 and 12th in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 57.24. Both Ellie Wang and Noelle Harris swam the 50 Free and were members of the 400 Free Relay. Returning swimmers, Lauren Cordes (16th 200 Free, 13th 100 Free), Syuen See (16th 100 Back), Katia Guerrero (16th 100 Butterfly) and Dorothea Johnson also contributed both individually and in the relays.

On the boys’ side, every swim from the four boys placed in the Top Eight and scored points. The fast swims started off with freshman Henry Shea who placed seventh in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:07.02 and sixth in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 55.66, just 1/10th of a second behind teammate Vidyal Pradeepkumar (55.56) who placed sixth. Campbell Wolford has returned for his senior year ready to sprint. He placed fifth in the 50 free with a time of 22.50 and eighth in the 100 Back with a time of 57.95. Fellow senior and Cooper’s record-holding 100 Backstroker, Pradeepkumar placed fifth in the 100 Back with a time of 57.42. The final senior, William Staebel, got off to a fast start placing third in the 100 Free with a time of 48.91 and fourth in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:02.48. Shea, Wolford, Pradeepkumar and Staebel also swam the 200 free relay and 400 free relay, placing fourth in both.

Dragon Head Coach Sara Bany, is excited for the season and encouraged by the times that the team swam so early in the season. Be on the lookout for this fast Cooper team in the upcoming TISCA meet on November 16.

Girls’ soccer is off to a tough but fun start to the season. We started off with a few morning practices and a scrimmage against Awty where all the players who aren’t currently in a fall sport were able to get on the field and play. The scrimmage was a great way to see new players as well as see what we do well and the things we need to work on. I look forward to getting everyone going for the rest of season.
