Speakers Enrich Educational Experience Throughout Year

October Experts Speak on Nutrition, Body Positivity
The John Cooper School is pleased to bring guest speakers on campus throughout each school year who are experts in a wide variety of fields, who enrich the educational experience for out students and faculty. Here are two experts who spoke on campus in October.

Proper Sports Nutrition and Overall Wellness

Roberta Anding, Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, will be speaking with Middle and Upper School students on October 29 about the importance of proper sports nutrition and overall wellness. Ms. Anding has worked with the Houston Astros for five years, the Houston Texans for twelve years, and the Houston Ballet for fifteen years. Ms. Anding is a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and was named one of the “Favorite Faculty” of Rice University. You can read more about her work here.
 
Redefining What An Athlete Looks Like Today
 
Earlier in the month, Mirna Valerio, named National Geographic’s “Adventurer of the Year,” was the keynote speaker as part of the Upper School’s Cooper Cares Day on October 11. Ms. Valerio also spoke to seventh and eighth grade students on the message, “redefining what an athlete looks like today,” body positivity, and pursuing adventure in one’s life.
