SPC FALL CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

VARSITY VOLLEYBALLFifth Place Finish in SPC

SPC championships at Fort Worth Country Day, Fort Worth:
Cooper was seeded third in the SPC South Zone going in.

Opening Round vs. Fort Worth Country Day • 3-0 WIN

Championship Quarterfinals vs. Episcopal of Dallas (SPC North Zone 2nd seed) • 0-3 LOSS

Final for Fifth Place vs. St. Stephen’s • 3-0 WIN

From Coach Ray Hedden:
We lost in three straight set to Episcopal School of Dallas. The girls played well against a talented team that didn’t make many mistakes. Kara O’Neal led the way in offense with Abby Frazier putting up some great sets. Mia Salerno did a great job in the middles as well as Hannah Gooch, who played one of her best matches of the year. They went out fighting as they headed to play St. Stephen's for fifth place.
We finished strong against St. Stephen’s in our final match for 5th place. Hannah Gooch played her best tournament of the year, Kara O’Neal once again led the team in kills and Mia Salerno was great at the net. There were a lot of good points, but this match was about the seniors! I was so proud of them for finishing strong and will miss them incredibly. I know they will move on to do great things.

VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY  Boys’, 7th; Girls’ 5th; Three Earn All-SPC

SPC championships at Trinity Valley at Athletic Performance Ranch, Fort Worth:
Boys’ • 7th place Girls • 5th

The Cooper Cross Country teams completed their season at the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) Championships on Saturday November 11 in Fort Worth. The boys finished in 7th place while the girls moved up a spot from last year, to finish in 5th place. Both teams ran great races on a very tough course and with a competitive field of athletes.

Cooper had three runners receive All-SPC Honors finishing in the top 20 in their perspective races. Senior Sidney Cartwright finished 9th in the girls’ race while juniors Eli Araya and Mitchell Shannon finished in 14th and 17th for the boys. “These three runners lead their teams all year long and have be great captains for us,” said Cooper Head Coach George Dohner.

The boys’ teams finished in 7th place led by Eli Araya (14th) and Mitchell Shannon (17th). They were followed by junior Brian Ross who finished in 32nd place. “Ross has made huge improvements in almost every race he has run,” said Dohner. “His 32nd place finish was a great improvement over his 81st place a year ago.”

Will McDermott finished in 40th place, which was the third highest freshman placement in the race. Sophomore Cadan Hanson, a newcomer to the sport this year, finished in a respectable 53rd place in his first-ever SPC Championship race. Erik Burns and Andrew Mahler rounded out the top seven in 63rd and 80th place.

“If you notice, there are no seniors listed on our roster, so this respectable finish of our young and relatively green team, holds hope for our program next year," said Dohner.

The girls' team, led by Sidney Cartwright’s 9th place medal, finished in 5th place. Running well and scoring big points for the team was Madison Breaux (27), Uche Oguchi (28) and Katie Drake(36) to round off Cooper’s team score of 135 points. This was huge improvement from last year’s 160-plus points. Other runners running well in the final meet were Avriana Lisembee (43rd), Shilpa Rumalla (45th) and Paige Cromley (66th).

“We are so proud of this team of young ladies,” said Dohner. “They continue to amaze us with their team chemistry. They feed off of each other and are ready to step-up when a teammate is having a down day.” This team is also relatively young and will return five of their top seven runners to next year’s season.

“We have been so proud of the Cooper runners this year. The kids came to practice every day ready to work. We couldn’t be happier with their efforts at the SPC meet. Every one of our runners laid it all out on the line,” said Dohner. “I know the season only ended this weekend, but we are so excited for the future of this program.”
