VARSITY VOLLEYBALL Cooper Adds Two Wins, Undefeated, 10-0

8/15 vs Lutheran South WIN
25-17, 25-16, 25-5

From Coach Ray Hedden: Cooper moved to 9-0 with a sweep of Lutheran South winning in three straight sets and controlling the match from the start. Abby Frazier got the offense going by getting our hitters off to a great start with great tempo sets that helped with her match total of 21 assists for the night. Kara O’Neal (eight kills) and Anna Claire Adam (12 kills) led the attack on Lutheran South while Hannah Gooch held a strong defense in the back row. Hannah chased down a bad pass near the bleachers with an amazing diving save that was followed up by Anna Claire sending it over to a frustrated Lutheran South team followed with an error. That defensive effort set the stage, and from that point that we did not allow balls to hit the ground on the our side.
We still have a lot of work to do to shore up our defense over the next few weeks but I am extremely proud of their consistent high effort level and a team chemistry that enables them to overcome any errors. Once we correct them in practice, we will become more efficient on both sides of the ball and really push our opponents into a tough position. I am very proud of our team effort in our wins. They truly work well as a team.

8/17 vs. Covenant Christian, 3-0 WIN
25-8, 25-7 and 25-10

From Coach Ray Hedden:
Varsity moved to 10-0 on the season in dominant fashion, winning in straight sets 25-8, 25-7 and 25-10. We had total team contribution, which was very exciting to see.

VARSITY FOOTBALL

8/18 at Fort Bend Christian Academy/Lutheran High North (scrimmage)
The Cooper Dragons competed in a three-team scrimmage Friday night along with Lutheran High North and Fort Bend Christian Academy. The defense only allowed one touchdown over 44 plays. Rob DeLoit had an interception while Eric Grosser, Andrew Saibara, and Matt Krehbiel each had six tackles each. On Offense the Dragons scored four times; two on the ground and two through the air. Joe Wilkins and Preston Burnett each had a rushing touchdown. Evan Godwin and Matt Krehbiel each had a receiving touchdown. Quarterback Evan Minarovic was 21 for 37 passing with 388 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT.
Overall, the Dragons outscored their opponents four to one.

From Coach Brent Landrum:
This was the most complete scrimmage we have put together since we started the program. The boys played extremely hard and they each did their job. They were confident in their abilities and their assignments. I could not be prouder. It is “just a scrimmage” but for us, it is great progress. We competed very well against two TAPPS playoff teams from the past season. I was very impressed by the team and coaches as a whole. The thing that jumped out to me was how much control of the offense Evan Minarovic had. I am excited about the upcoming scrimmage vs. Second Baptist. They are very good and it will be a great challenge.

Congratulations to Dragon senior football players Eric Grosser (safety) and Andrew Saibara (linebacker) on being named to the Houston Touchdown Club Private School Preseason Team. This is the first year Cooper has  had two players represented. Click here to check out the article from the Houston Chronicle.
