Baccalaureate, Commencement Scheduled for Class of 2017

Thursday, May 25
The John Cooper School Baccalaureate
Glenn Performing Arts Center • 7:00 PM

Dr. Ed Robb, senior pastor of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, will give the address at The John Cooper School Baccalaureate on May 25 in the Glenn Performing Arts Center on campus. Rev. Robb obtained his training at the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University and was called to establish a new church in The Woodlands community in 1978. The church has steadily grown along with the community, and is now located on Lake Woodlands Drive. Dr. Robb and his wife, Bev, have three grown children and seven grandchildren. Their daughter-in-law, Erin Robb, teaches first grade at Cooper and their granddaughter, Sadie, is a member of Cooper’s Class of 2017. The traditional Baccalaureate ceremony will also feature the Upper School choir singing “I Was Here,” an anthem that proclaims the singer’s desire to do something that will leave a mark on the world.

Friday, May 26
The John Cooper School Commencement
Dunlap Gymnasium • 2:00 PM

The Commencement ceremony for The John Cooper School’s Class of 2017 will be held in the Dunlap Gymnasium on campus on Friday, May 26 beginning at 2 p.m. Senior Emily Moses will sing the national anthem. Fellow seniors Matthew Mussalli will give the invocation, Paige Bohan will share her thoughts as class speaker and Jack Wade will give the valedictory address. Head of School Michael Maher and Head of Upper School Stephen Popp will lead the issuance of diplomas. The school’s band, under the direction of Tony Yarbrough, and Upper School Choir, under the direction of Rae Moses, will provide music for the ceremony. As is tradition, the choir will be joined by faculty and alumni to sing together “An Old Irish Blessing.” Following Commencement, as is also a Cooper tradition, faculty, administrators and trustees will form a welcome line to congratulate each of the 103 members of The John Cooper School Class of 2017.

Jack Wade – A Cooper Pioneer

Jack Wade, a Cooper Pioneer, has been named valedictorian for The John Cooper School Class of 2017. Students who have attended the college preparatory independent school consecutively since Kindergarten are designated as “Cooper Pioneers” and recognized for such in end-of-year events. A Woodlands native, Wade plans to study computer science at The University of Texas in Austin as part of the Plan II program. He has played football for all four years of high school and soccer for three years. He has also been an active member of the school’s Computer Club and has competed in the EfTA Math Bowl competition.
