Cooper Golfer Is Tournament Champion

Congratulations to Ben Wong!

Ben Wong, a junior at The John Cooper School, was the boys’ tournament champion of the St. John’s Invitational at Wolfdancer Golf Club in Lost Pines, TX on March 26-27. Wong shot a 69 both days, winning the tournament by seven strokes and leading the Dragon boys’ team to a second-place finish. The tournament included teams from the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) from Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin. The girls’ team finished in fourth place.

“Ben overpowered a very challenging golf course. He was the only player in the field to shoot under-par, and on top that, he shot in the 60s both days,” said Rod Gold, head golf coach for Cooper. “Ben is in total command of his driver. He hit a couple drives over 400 yards and putted the ball well.”

The Dragon varsity golf team heads to Southwyck Golf Club in Pearland on April 10 to compete in the Episcopal Invitational. This is the last competition before the team hosts the SPC Championships on April 24-25 at Cypresswood Golf Club.
