Varsity Girls’ Softball: Cooper Shuts Out Three Teams In Round Robin

COOPER ROUND ROBIN:

2/16 vs. Concordia Lutheran • 2-0 WIN
Pitcher Eryn Sanchez allowed just two hits and no runs for a shutout. Alex Sims went 0-1 at the plate leading the team with two runs batted in.

2/17 vs. Bay Area Christian • 3-0 WIN
Another shutout for Pitcher Eryn Sanchez, who allowed just one hit. Pitching was strong on both sides as Eryn struck out eight and Northland Christian struck out seven. Nikki Juszczak, Emilie Albers, Eryn Sanchez and Grayson Sloop achieved one hit each.

2/18 vs. The Oakridge School • 15-0 WIN

Wow!! What a start to the season!! We are very proud of our Dragons and I am looking forward to a great season! A big shout out to our maintenance crew for getting the field game-ready after the heavy down pour we would not have been able to play this weekend without them!

Tournament recap from Coach Brent Landrum: The Dragons went 2-2 on the weekend. Our pitching was solid all weekend long. Defensively we struggled at times. Offensively, until the last game, we struggled. This is to be expected early in the season. I expect this team to be sound in all three areas, pitching, defense, and offense, by the time we get to the meat of our schedule.

Pitching team totals:
As a team, we pitched 25 innings with a 1.40 ERA (earned run average). The pitchers surrendered only 18 hits while striking out 23 and only walking 4 batters. In the last game, Jackson Rowley had a no-hitter through 4 and 2/3 innings. Rowley earned his first career varsity win that game.
